If you do put it on cafepress (hopefully complete), announce it loud and clear so we (or at least I) can run over there and purchase a copy. I'm always willing to support a flan - especially a talented one such as yourself.

Hey. Just wanted to leave a note-- I learned about this strip just a few days ago from Serenity Tales, and I read through shortly after that. It was only a few days where the strip wasn't updating for me, and potentially for a lot of new folks. (I don't know if you have any hit tracking going on: you might be able to tell.) I joined by RSS (probably a lot of folks did), and the notes come up at the bottom, so I just noticed them for this entry.

Anyway, all that's to say: I like the strip a lot, and I'll be looking forward to new installments. Plus, probably a lot of people are in the same boat as I and didn't realize you'd paused with the strip because we're new.

Good luck!

Hey, it's not a bad thing you've got here. Just saying, you might try faces with a bit more expression to them. My favourite part of Firefly has always been how they could talk to each other with their eyes!

I will manage without a wacom, heck most of the time I am using my laptops touch pad... that can get frustrating. :) The biggest problem I am running into is that the script isn't written for a comic book form, it is a screen play. Which can change shots 10 times in 30 seconds without seeming odd. If I attempt that on a comic book page then the pacing will just go out the window. Hence the compromise of the colored balloons. I need to put up a legend so you can tell who is who. :)

If you are interested in drawing comics on the computer with or without a wacom tablet I would highly suggest Manga Studio for the line part... it is incredibly simple and powerful for that.

The colors match their initial shirts, when they change shirts their colors will stay the same. I would prefer to have all white baloons, but it is a compromise. There is so much dialogue because this isn't a comic book script, it is a tv script. In trying to keep up with some sort of pacing I wanted to be able to tell the characters apart even if they aren't "on screen". A lot of time in a scene someone will just pipe in with a wise crack and I wanted the reader to be able to tell who was talking even though they might not be in panel. The other option would be to edit the script itself which I have been trying to avoid.

Okay, color me slow but I just got it: the word balloons are colored to match the characters' shirts. This is to show the reader who's saying what, right?

Is there another way to do this? I'm beginning to find it a mite distracting. And what happens when the crew changes their clothes? Or, heck, what if Inara is wearing something complicated and brocade-y? What if the crew has to wear the same thing across all of them, like the EMT suits they wore for the St. Lucy's job in "Ariel"? What then?

Just wondering.

As long as you're tracking left to right, top to bottom, with both the panel and the word balloon placement, it's cool.

I especially like the way you've inset the two smaller panels into the bigger background one. It's a subtle way to imply quick cuts by the camera, telling us important details but not slowing down the reader's train of thought.

The less bumps on the track, the better, and the reader can enjoy the ride. No worries on this page, Hardcopi, you got it.
